Manav Suthar will return to Warwickshire for the remaining four matches of the 2026 County Championship season after the Indian team wraps up its Test series against Sri Lanka. He was the left arm spinner for the county in two games earlier this season and made a splash right away.
In the two matches, Suthar picked up 11 wickets, including five in a single match, adding to his reputation as an effective red-ball bowler. He now has 147 wickets from 32 first-class games and will be another useful addition to Warwickshire’s armoury in the final lap of the season.
Suthar set for second Warwickshire stint
Suthar’s return comes after he was selected in India’s squad for the Sri Lanka Test series. After his international duties are done, he will be expected to return to Warwickshire and play in the remaining four County Championship matches.
Warwickshire have stayed in the race for Division One, and are five points behind the leaders. The county will be looking to bolster their bowling attack in the crucial period of the season with Suthar back in the fray, having won the championship in 2021.
Will Young also returns
New Zealand batsman Will Young is also joining Warwickshire for the rest of the County Championship season. Young previously played three times for the club last season, averaging 53 appearances.
Both had impressed in their previous appearances and would provide quality at a crucial moment in the campaign, Warwickshire Performance Director James Thomas said. Young is expected to bolster the batting department after Beau Webster left the club for the season.
Warwickshire continue title push
The Warwickshire side have had some decent red-ball displays this season and are still in contention for the top of Division One. The addition of Suthar and Young adds experience and depth to the team as the championship race nears its conclusion.
Suthar’s batting and bowling skills may prove to be a boon for Warwickshire. The Indian spinner will now aim to make another big impact as the Bears strive to win another County Championship.
