Delhi Capitals all-rounder joins Hampshire in England’s county team to bolster its squad for the Metro Bank One-Day Cup.
India batting all-rounder Ashutosh Sharma has joined Hampshire for the upcoming 2026 Metro Bank One-Day Cup, the county confirmed.
The 27-year-old is a recent addition to Hampshire, having made a name for himself in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as one of the most promising middle-order batsmen in the tournament over the past few seasons.
Reward for impressive IPL performances
In the past two IPL seasons, Ashutosh has been averaging over 31 runs with a strike rate of around 170 for Delhi Capitals.
His hard-hitting and finishing prowess has proved useful in the T20 format, and he has been given a chance to display his talent in English domestic cricket.
Record-breaking domestic career
The all-rounder is also the fastest Indian to score a half-century in T20 cricket, having achieved the feat in 11 balls against Arunachal Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023.
Ashutosh has played in over 90 matches, including domestic matches, in all formats for Madhya Pradesh before joining the Railways.
In List A cricket, he has scored 458 runs in 21 matches and is emerging as a game-changer with his explosive batting.
Hampshire excited to welcome new signing
Hampshire Director of Cricket Giles White welcomed the signing and said that Ashutosh has huge potential as a player.
The Indian all-rounder’s performance in the IPL has been impressive and the club is looking forward to seeing him make a mark when the team is looking to bounce back from last season’s performance in the One-Day Cup, White said.
Opportunity to shine in English cricket
Ashutosh made his debut in the IPL with Punjab Kings and later got a call from the Delhi Capitals, where he has been developing into a potent middle order batsman.
His time at Hampshire will also be another valuable chance to get experience in the overseas environment and to bolster the county batting line-up for the 2026 One-Day Cup.
