England captain Harry Brook has called his team’s ODI series win over world No. 1 India “fantastic achievement” following a first ODI loss against India.
All the talk before the third ODI was about Rohit Sharma’s future in international cricket, but England put on a stellar all-round display at Lord’s to clinch a memorable win over the number one ODI team.
Brook applauds complete team performance
England scored a huge 387 with a fantastic opening stand for the pair of Ben Duckett and Jacob Bethell who put in a wonderful 192-run first wicket stand.
The platform they built in the opening pair was very aggressive but controlled, and the middle order was able to play free, said Brook. He also gave Joe Root a lot of credit for holding the innings together before Jos Buttler came up with a good finish in the final over.
Brook says the innings were a sign of England’s increasing confidence and their batting approach that they had in mind for the series.
England’s bowlers hold their nerve
India came back with a spirited chase but in the middle overs, England’s bowlers took control, but not before Rohit Sharma hit a magnificent century.
The players and coaches were constantly communicating throughout the game, which was important during the high-pressure moments, Brook said. He pointed out that the extended spell with Sam Curran was a turning point as both bowlers kept India in check and turned the tide in favour of England’s side.

Player of the Series Joe Root, who performed well in the three-match series, said beating the world’s top-ranked ODI team was a huge achievement for England.
Root has noted that the team has been improving steadily over the past few series and has shown signs of progress, adding that he is confident England is on the right track as they prepare for the ICC ODI World Cup 2027.
Gill reflects on costly mistakes
India skipper Shubman Gill has confessed that his team lost control in the end when they conceded too many runs in the last over against England.
After the Powerplay, Gill’s England bowlers had their chances to be exploited by the conditions and India were put under pressure for the rest of the innings. He said the visitors had a great batting effort but failed to come back.
Rohit’s century earns praise despite defeat
India missed the mark, but Gill had special praise for Rohit Sharma, who was instrumental in keeping India in the game with a brilliant 140-run knock.
Gill said Rohit’s knock was a delight to see and added that the pitch became progressively tougher towards the end of the innings.
