Aaryavir Sehwag Earns India U19 Call-Up for Australia Series
Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag son Aaryavir Sehwag has been called up for the first time in his career for the India Under-19 team for the upcoming home series against Australia. The young right-hander has made his debut in the India One-Day team for three matches in Rajkot in September 2026.
Sehwag has attracted attention with his aggressive batting style and impressive performances in domestic youth cricket. His selection is another significant milestone in his journey and will enable him to represent India at the under-19 category.
Aaryavir Sehwag Receives Maiden India U19 Call-Up
Aaryavir has been rewarded for his performances and has been selected for India squad for the three-match ODI series against Australia U19. The games will be held in Rajkot on 18th, 21st and 23rd September.
The youngster recently got his first taste of the Delhi Premier League 2026, playing for West Delhi Lions, where his attacking strokeplay was the highlight of the tournament. He had also created a sensation during the Cooch Behar Trophy in 2024 when he scored a fantastic 297 for Meghalaya.
He is been known for his quick scoring and attacking shots. The Australia series will now give him a chance to put those skills to the test at the international youth level.
Anvay Dravid Retains His Place

Wicketkeeper-batter Anvay Dravid has also been retained in the India squad for the One-Day format. He had a good impression during the recent Under-19 series against Sri Lanka for India.
But Anvay is not in the squad for the two Multi Day matches against Australia, just like Aaryavir Sehwag. The selectors have thus decided to make two separate squads for the ODI and the longer format contests.
It provides an opportunity for the players to focus on their particular format as well as gives the larger group of Under-19 players experience.

Rajkot to Host the One-Day Series
The first leg of the Australia U19 tour will be in Rajkot. The three One-Day internationals will be played at the venue from September 18 to 23.
The youngsters are able to play three games in a fairly short period of time. It will be crucial for Aaryavir Sehwag as he adapts to the expectations and pressure he will face while playing for India.
The matches should also give selectors a chance to test the next generation of Indian talent against a powerful youth side from Australia.
Multi-Day Matches Offer a Different Challenge
After the One-Day series, the two teams will move into the Multi-Day part of the tour. The first match will be played in Rajkot from 27 September to 30 September followed by the second match in Ahmedabad from 5 October to 8 October.
The longer format will challenge the players in various ways. Batters will have to show patience and build long innings and bowlers will have to show discipline for long spells.
The Multi-Day fixtures should thus be a complement to the One-Day series and provide exposure to both formats to the youngsters of the Indian side.
A Major Opportunity for Aaryavir
Aaryavir Sehwag choice is a significant step in his fledgling career. His surname certainly draws attention, but his acts have also gained him recognition.
His 297 in the Cooch Behar Trophy is one of the highlights that helped to make his name in the domestic youth cricket. He has also been seen attacking in the Delhi Premier League.
The Australia series will be a new challenge. Playing Under-19 international cricket will provide Aaryavir with a taste of the rigors of representative cricket and also provide him with excellent experience of quality bowling.
India U19 Squad Has Plenty to Prove
The Australia series is not all about the players. It will also help India Under-19 team gauge the depth and strength of its young players.
As the squads are split for the One-Day and Multi-Day formats, there will be opportunities for the young cricketers to showcase their skills in different formats.
The players could have a chance to improve their chances of securing better domestic opportunities in the future.
Conclusion
One of the biggest talking points before India series against Australia is the inclusion of Aaryavir Sehwag in the squad for the first time in the India U19 squad. The young batter will have a chance to demonstrate his skills in the three ODIs in Rajkot and further develop his skills as an emerging cricketer.
The tour will also give the India U19 team some good experience with three One-Day matches and two Multi-Day fixtures. The Australia series should be a good test of the next generation of Indian cricketers with both formats being played.
